Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, fiends, and dark forces expanding in power within the city.

Note: Revealing details for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Introduced

Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.

This warrior group features the determined fighter (played by Travis), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

With a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

This explains, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

First, the team knows exactly where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, striking the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The traitor then paid off his obligations and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • But, their position as important members in the influential clan could help the group reach areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that govern the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The healer betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them few options but to journey toward the remote area in search of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Seekers and Strategists groups.

Viewers can anticipate discovering which players will be in which group in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
